Artist Statement

Inheritance confronts the complex terrain of cultural identity and generational trauma within the Chicana experience—the liminal space of being a "no sabo" kid, raised between worlds, never fully belonging to either.

Deliberately stripped of obvious cultural markers, the figure exists in suspended tension among thorned native flora, using absence rather than presence to speak about identity. When erasure becomes legacy, this piece claims the right to belong.
