Anointed Gaze - Ink and graphite exploration of dissociation

Anointed Gaze

Medium: Ink and Graphite Year: 2022 Dimensions: 8" x 5"

Artist Statement

Anointed Gaze emerges from the visual vocabulary of dissociation—that liminal state where consciousness hovers at the periphery of presence. Through stippling and graphite application, the surface develops a granular, oscillating quality that echoes the sensory experience of suspension between awareness and absence.

The subject's weighted gaze suggests both burden and beauty within states of mental exhaustion and sensory overload. This work functions as visual meditation on burnout's strange aesthetics—finding profound beauty in the moments when the mind seeks refuge elsewhere.
